Jammer happy to plug-in Denver

Quentin Jammer says he came to Denver to win the Super Bowl.  It eluded the veteran cornerback for 11 years in San Diego, yet for him to get there he must learn a new position. Speaking to the Broncos' official website, Jammer said:

"I always considered myself a football player, not really put a label on myself as a corner or a safety.  This is the game of football, and I feel like I can be plugged in anywhere on the defense and play -- other than the big hosses up front. Any of the skill positions in the back end I can be plugged in and play. I wanted to come in and help this football team as much as I can."

The move to safety is part of a natural evolution for the ageing Cornerback. Jammer has seen others successful with the transition. He doesn't see why he can't do the same.
"I think one of the guys who made that transition, who brought it along, was Rod Woodson. Then Charles Woodson had great success with it. I think I'm that type of player, where I can come in.  I can pretty much cover anybody on the field. I've been doing it for 11 years. Why stop now?"
The Broncos originally targeted Charles Woodson to fill their need at safety. They might have gotten lucky. Jammer is a younger, cheaper and more durable fit.

Bills News: Marrone rates EJ Manuel

Don't be fooled by the headline, yes you would expect the new Head Coach of an NFL team to be raving about his newly drafted first round Quarterback.  However, Doug Marrone of the Buffalo Bills is over the moon with EJ Manuel via the Buffalo Bills website, after Friday's practice:

"From my standpoint ... EJ Manuel has done better (as a rookie) than any of the other organizations I've been a part of,"
That's relatively light praise coming from a first-year head coach, but keep in mind that Marrone spent seven seasons in the league as an assistant with the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints before migrating to coach Syracuse.
Marrone's career with the Bills invariably will be linked to Manuel's success, so we'd be surprised if the coach dished out anything but praise for his young quarterback.
On the field, Manuel has played through organized team activities as the third quarterback behind Kevin Kolb and Tarvaris Jackson. That doesn't mean much, and the Bills would surprise us if they made anyone other than Manuel their Week 1 starter. That's where all of this is headed.
For this personal writer, EJ Manuel looked like the second or third best QB on the 2013 draft board behind Geno Smith, however, the Bills traded their pick to the St. Louis Rams (who used it on Tavon Austin - good business) and then took Manuel at higher than the Dallas Cowboys, who only graded him a fourth-round pick, for instance.
Manuel graduated as a senior, and has that intangible of never having lost a Bowl game during his career - a winning habit the Bills hope he can bring to the currently New England Patriots dominated AFC East.

The 2012 season wasn't much fun for the Jacksonville Jaguars or running back Maurice Jones-Drew. He missed a majority of the year to a foot injury, but he's hoping 2013 will be different. Jones-Drew's recovery has gone well so far, and he's still hoping to be ready by the time training camp begins, according to Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union.

While Jones-Drew didn't practice with the Jaguars yesterday during OTAs, he did run 30 yards at three-quarters speed during the workout. While this may seem like a minor accomplishment, the running back was excited for the progression.

NFL rumors: Tim Tebow offered job with Philadelphia Soul

Since the New York Jets released quarterback Tim Tebow, NFL teams haven’t exactly been lining up to sign the polarizing figure. While there’s been a lack of interest from the NFL, Tebow has received attention from a few semi-pro leagues, and it appears that the Philadelphia Soul are the latest to extend an offer, according to The Philadelphia Daily News (via Pro Football Talk).

What could make the Soul especially intriguing is that they are owned by former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski. Still, the offer may not be enticing to Tebow considering the invitation is to play behind starting quarterback Dan Raudabaugh.

At this point last season, Chicago was hoping Carimi could return from significant knee surgery to retake the team’s starting right tackle job. Now, he finds himself fighting for a position on the Bears’ roster.

After a short pursuit, the police caught him, and he was arrested after some punches and kicks were thrown, though there was no Tasering.

Jets rumors: New York could cut or trade Mark Sanchez

As the new season approaches, most assume that while Geno Smith could eventually take over as the New York Jets' starting quarterback, Mark Sanchez will fill the role to open the year. However, Peter King of Sports Illustrated says that Smith could win the starting job during camp, which could cause the Jets to trade or even cut Sanchez prior to Week 1.

There's talk that the Jets are enamored by Smith, and some have listed the starting job as his to lose. This has led to talk that Sanchez will only be on the Jets' roster to start the season if Smith proves totally incapable of picking up the offense.

Chargers rumors: Max Starks still in the mix

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Max Starks recently visited with the San Diego Chargers, who are in search of a tackle. While Starks left the Chargers without a contract in hand, he remains in the mix for San Diego, according to Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego.

While there are questions surrounding Starks’ abilities as left tackle, Gehlken believes he would slot in as the Chargers’ starter at that position if he were to sign. That’s because San Diego currently has King Dunlap as their projected left tackle, which is why the team is so interested in adding depth at the position.

Free agent Tim Tebow is currently seeking another opportunity to be a quarterback in the National Football League. If this effort fails, Rob Raissman of The New York Daily News believes he could land a position as a television football analyst.

The New York Jets recently released Tebow, meaning he can sign with any team he chooses. Of course, that assumes a team wants Tebow, which doesn't appear to be the case at this point. This is especially true if he continues to hold out hope of playing quarterback in the NFL, as his chances of signing will likely increase if he would agree to move to a H-back type of position.

Bills Pick EJ Manuel for Success

Many football fans were surprised to see that former FSU star EJ Manuel was the first quarterback to come off the board in the first round of the draft on Thursday. However, upon further review, EJ Manuel was a great pick for the quarterback hungry Buffalo Bills franchise.

Filling in for Ponder again as a sophomore, he was able to lead the Seminoles to a victory in the 2010 Chick-fil-A Bowl, against South Carolina. Manuel became a full time starter in his Junior and Senior seasons. As a junior he threw for 2,666 yards and displayed his mobility as he scored 4 rushing touchdowns.
