Dallas Cowboys wide receiver pushed off surgery on his
broken left index finger until after the season so that he could continue to
play through the injury. While this allowed him to stay on the field – Bryant didn’t
miss a game due to the ailment – it meant that the finger would be permanently
damaged moving forward. Despite this permanent effect, Bryant told reporters –
including Carlos Mendez of The Star-Telegram – that he thinks he might be
catching the ball better with his finger the way it is now.

“It’s never going to be normal, but I promise you, it’s never going to be an issue,” the Cowboys receiver said Wednesday at a charity event in Arlington. “I’m ready to go and catch some footballs. I actually feel like I’ve been catching better with the finger problem.”
To avoid surgery, Bryant continued taping his finger heavily
in order to play out the remainder of the season. He knew the finger would be
permanently damaged, but he continued playing. Bryant finished the 2012 season
with 92 receptions for 1,382 yards and 12 touchdowns.
