Broncos reach out to retired offensive lineman Ryan Lilja

When Denver Broncos center Dan Koppen was carted off the field with a torn ACL at Sunday's practice, it put the team in desperation mode to find a replacement center. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported that Lilja is thinking it over, and that he'll make his decision in a few days.

Jaguars' Denard Robinson in Wildcat

Denard Robinson will play all over the field during his rookie season, and in the three snaps he saw in the Wildcat formation, the speedy former quarterback from the University of Michigan displayed the kind of diversity he brings to the table.

Robinson ran once, handed off to Maurice Jones-Drew and threw a completion, according to the Florida Times-Union. Given that the Jaguars quarterbacks threw eight straight incompletions under no duress, we'll put a tiny gold star on Robinson's pass.

Eagles’ Jason Phillips suffers ACL tear

Cowboys' Romo bound for Canton

Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Tony Romo wants to play in the Hall of Fame game this coming Sunday versus the Miami Dolphins.

Speaking to the team's website, Romo stated:

"If I did play, it would be a series, whether you went eight plays or three plays, I'm not sure how much that is going to affect that.  Saying that, I still want to play every time I suit up. Every time I step out there your juices are flowing and you want to compete. From that perspective, yeah. But whatever the coaches want."

Coming off back surgery this offseason the Cowboys are bringing along Romo slowly and coach Jason Garrett originally said his quarterback was unlikely to play in the first preseason game. Romo hasn't missed a practice and said he'd go along with whatever coaches decided.
The Cowboys have five preseason games this year, so Romo still would be on a normal preseason schedule were he to sit out Sunday's superfluous contest.

It turns out that there may be some concern surrounding the foot ailment, as Williams was sent away from the training facility to have his injury examined further, according to Tim Graham of The Buffalo News.

New Bills head coach Doug Marrone shared the news with reporters yesterday.

However, Kubiak is now a lot more optimistic regarding Foster’s status, as he told Josina Anderson of ESPN that he’s hoping the Pro Bowler is back on the field at some point this week.

Jason Pierre-Paul's status uncertain for Week 1

While head coach Tom Coughlin said that Pierre-Paul was doing well with his rehab, he didn't give any answers as to whether or not the star defensive end would be ready to go in time for the Giants' Week 1 match up with the Dallas Cowboys, according to NBCSports.com.

Jason Pierre-Paul said he felt about 75 percent healthy. However, Pierre-Paul would not give any answers on when he would be back in action either. He said his goal was to continue with his rehab and return whenever he is ready, rather than rush himself back for the season opener.

First round draft pick contract update

The new collective bargaining agreement doesn't allow much wiggle room for teams to negotiate, but that doesn't mean that there aren't negotiations taking place. Teams have begun to get particular over the offset in a rookie's contract. This refers to the amount of money the initial team would still be responsible for paying to the play if the player is cut and then signed to another team's roster.

Here's an up-to-date look at first round rookie contracts around the league. First round picks who remain unsigned include Eric Fisher, Jonathan Cooper, Dee Milliner, Chance Warmack, DJ Hayden, Sheldon Richardson, Justin Pugh, Desmond Trufant, Sharrif Floyd, Xavier Rhodes, Datone Jones, Sylvester Williams, and Cordarrelle Patterson. *note all first round draft picks receive 4 year deals.

Maurice Jones-Drew cleared for training camp

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has been medically cleared by the team's training staff to participate in training camp according to an ESPN report. The three time pro bowl running back is coming back from a Lisfranc injury that ended his season 10 weeks early in 2012.

Considering the severity of a Lisfranc injury and factor in that Maurice Jones-Drew is 28 years old, (which is getting up there for a running back) you can expect the Jaguars to be very careful with their star running back and ease Jones-Drew back into football activities.

Since Dolphins sophomore QB Ryan Tannehill started playing pitch-and-catch with his new best friend, rumors have swirled around the league that chemistry just isn't there. Wallace's hands are sloppy and that "it" factor every team hopes for in their $60 million man hasn't shown up yet.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sign RB Peyton Hillis

Formerly of the Chiefs and Browns, RB Peyton Hillis was considered a fantasy breakout candidate in 2011 after carrying the ball for Cleveland 270 times for 1,177 yards and 11 scores in 2010. A Madden-cover birth did no favors for Hillis as he skid between injuries and only found the end zone 3 times in 2011 and only once in 2012 (KC).

The one year deal doesn't prove much confidence that Hillis is even guaranteed a roster position. He's likely a benefactor of the NFC arms-race for running backs. Both Carolina and New Orleans are known RB hoarders. (Stewart, Williams, Tolbert. Sproles, Thomas, Ingram. Respectively.) If Peyton's value will likely be looked at as a fullback. He spent his college career blocking at Arkansas for Darren McFadden.

Hillis holds no fantasy value. If something were to happen to sophomore stud DougMartin  I wouldn't bank on Hillis carrying the same work-load.

While this is certainly good news, Cabot believes the Browns are still likely to err on the side of caution when it comes to their primary rusher. She wouldn’t be surprised if Cleveland limits Richardson early on in camp. The team’s main focus will be keeping him healthy throughout the 2013 season.

Giants’ Justin Tuck ‘still not 100 percent’

In a recent interview with Giants.com, defensive end Justin Tuck said that he’s hoping to see improvement on the team’s defensive line this season. He’s hoping that some of that increased contribution can come from him, and while he added that he’s feeling “pretty healthy,” the 30-year-old is “still not 100 percent.”

49ers’ Parys Haralson hoping to return after lost season

The San Francisco 49ers lost outside linebacker Parys Haralson to what became a season-ending injury during the preseason last year. Poised to rejoin the team for the 2013 season, Haralson told Taylor Price of 49ers.com that he’s hoping to pick up where he left off.
“Anytime you can get back to what you love doing, it’s always a good thing,” the 49ers linebacker said. “You take things how they are. It’s unfortunate what happened last year, but being able to stay with the team and be around them, it’s what kept me into it. I feel like it helped me pick up where I left off.”

Raiders’ Darren McFadden expecting big season

When he entered the NFL, Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden was one of the most coveted young players available. Over five seasons in the NFL, he’s shown glimpses of his potential, but he’s yet to take off due to injuries and inconsistency. Giants rumors: New York confident Victor Cruz will sign

The New York Giants have expressed confidence in the fact that they’ll be able to reach a long-term extension agreement with wide receiver Victor Cruz, but a new contract has yet to result. This apparently hasn’t dampened the team’s confidence, as Chris Mortensen of ESPN (courtesy of Pro Football Talk) reported yesterday that New York is 100-percent certain that they’ll come to an agreement with Cruz by the time training camp opens.

Buccaneers’ Greg Schiano supports Josh Freeman

Entering the offseason, there were those that questioned Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ head coach Greg Schiano’s backing of quarterback Josh Freeman. The team did little to ease this suspicion when it selected quarterback Mike Glennon in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Still, Schiano told The NFL Network yesterday that Freeman is the team’s quarterback.

Chiefs talking to Eric Fisher

The Chiefs drafted Eric Fisher with the overall No. 1 pick in the 2013 NFL draft in April, yet they have not signed him yet.

According to Len Pasquarelli, of the National Football Post:

"The Chiefs and Fisher have yet to have substantive talks, but they should start talking more seriously in the next week or so"

The price tags on rookie first round picks, are not anything like the mad $70m dollar payout to Sam Bradford, and the rookie wage scale simplifies matters in this area.

Fisher remains as the only Chiefs draft pick to remain unsigned.  Expect them to have something concrete in place before July 22nd, when rookies and quarterbacks must attend training camp before everyone else reports on July 26th.

Can Patriots recoup Hernandez money?

New England released star tight end Aaron Hernandez about an hour after his arrest for suspected first degree murder last week.  Now the Patriots are attempting to recoup any bonus money promised to Hernandez in his recent multi-million dollar contract.

Ian Rappaport of NFL.com, reports:

The Patriots have voided all of Hernandez's remaining guaranteed money in the five-year, $40-million contract extension the tight end signed last summer. That reportedly includes Hernandez's $2.5 million guaranteed salary for this season, two $1 million workout bonuses and a $3.25 million portion of his signing bonus that was paid this year.

Using simple math, the Patriots are trying to recoup just under $8 million after releasing Hernandez.

This could well prove tricky for the Patriots. There is a clause in the Collective Bargaining Agreement that protects teams from "conduct unbecoming" with a player.  New England did that by releasing Hernandez, who was charged with murder, yet the case will be ongoing for some time and so difficult to determine his guilt or innocence.

Ladarius Webb back for camp

Following the departure of Ray Lewis to retirement and Ed Reed to free agency, the Baltimore Ravens were due some good news on the defensive front.  They got it on Monday, when it was announced that cornerback Ladarius Webb will be back for training camp in late July following his anterior cruciate ligament injury in late October.

Defensive co-ordinator Dean Pees, speaking to Comcast Sports Net Baltimore cannot wait to get him back:

"He makes plays. He's a good tackler. It looks like he's a buck-fifty out there, but the guy throws his body around. He thinks he's a linebacker. The other part of it is just the way he plays, with the tenacity that he plays with. It just brings an extra spark to that whole secondary."

Webb was voted to second team All NFL in 2011, and without Reed on the team, the Ravens hope to boast an improved secondary in 2013 thanks to Ozzie Newsome's wheeling and dealing in the free agency market.

Rams' wews: Rams liking new joy Jared Cook

Having worked with him previously at the Tennessee Titans, and failing to utilise him in the best positions, head coach of the St Louis Rams, Jeff Fisher, is looking forward to working with Jared Cook this time:

"He's obviously got years of experience under his belt, he understands the league, he understands defenses and he's picked things up really well, we're excited about creating mismatches, and offensive success these days is about creating mismatches," he said to the Tennessean on Saturday

This is in stark contrast during Cook's first two seasons at the Titans under Fisher - where he struggled with blocking and garnered only nine receptions during 14 games of his rookie season in 2009.

Cook has the potential to be a big playmaker along with rookie wide receiver, Tavon Austin, in the Rams' revamped passing game.

Although prone to inconsistency and drops which have negated him from talk of joining the elite tight end quota, Fisher was surprised he was not taken quicker on the open market:

49ers’ Ricardo Lockette could replace Michael Crabtree

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree suffered a torn Achilles tendon in May. While the injury isn’t expected to sideline the talented wide out for the entire 2013 campaign, it’s likely to keep him out through at least the end of November. As a result, the 49ers are looking for someone to step up and fill in for Crabtree and his impressive 2012 production. Training camp has yet to begin, but Ricardo Lockette could be an early favorite, according to The Albany Herald.
