The Houston Texans and Arian Foster are waiting until the
running back’s calf injury is 100-percent healed before he joins his team in training
camp. He’s apparently approaching that mark, as general manager Rick Smith told
Josina Anderson of ESPN that Foster is “very close” to practicing.
"We want to make sure that he is totally 100 percent ready. So he's very close," Smith said. "We are just making sure that he is ready to go when we let him loose. We are being cautious and taking that slowly, but I have no worries that that is going to be something that he is going to have to deal with."
Smith added that he doesn’t expect the calf injury to be one
that lingers through the 2013 season. That’s good news for Texans fans and
fantasy owners alike, as leg injuries to the calf and hamstring have a tendency
of being aggravated. Houston hopes to avoid this by taking things slow with
Foster even after he’s activated from the physically unable to perform list and
begins practicing. This could happen as soon as today, based on reports.
