49ers Marcus Lattimore expects to practice by mid-season

Marcus Lattimore’s 2012 season with South Carolina was cut short due to a significant knee injury. This caused teams to shy away from him in the recent NFL Draft, but the San Francisco 49ers elected to take a chance on the former top prospect in the fourth round. While there is still much to be determined in the recovery process, Lattimore told the NFL Network – quotes courtesy of Pro Football Talk – that he expects to be well enough to start practicing with the 49ers by the middle of the 2013 season.
“I did a lot this offseason,” Lattimore said. “I’ve been running sprints, got a chance to get in there with the guys a little bit — that felt good. I probably won’t do training camp. And I’m on course with the trainer and the doctor to get a chance to practice mid-season and see what happens.”

As a result, the Cowboys are trying to protect Austin from additional injury early in the offseason, as they will be removing him from the playing field every now and then to keep him from overworking his hamstrings, according to Carlos Mendez of The Star-Telegram.

The Cowboys held Austin out one day of mandatory mini-camp last week, and he also missed some of the team’s voluntary practices earlier this offseason. By doing so, Dallas is hoping that Austin can spend more time on the field during the regular season.

Isaiah Pead Suspended

Isiaih Pead will not play in the season opener for the St. Louis Rams having been suspended for violating the NFL substance abuse policy.  However, Jeff Fisher will stand by the player and keep him involved in training throughout pre-season and training camp:

"Obviously, he has to suffer the consequences and miss the game, but I'm pleased with how he's bounced back and his professional approach to being a member of this team this year.

He's not going to be penalized as far as reps and carries during the preseason. We're getting ready for a long haul and we'll be without him for one week, which we understand, but it doesn't complicate things."

Pead was a second-round draft pick who did not play much in his rookie year, yet the Rams structure believe in the upside of the player.  Following the departure of Steven Jackson to the Atlanta Falcons, Pead is competing with Daryl Richardson, Zac Stacy and Terrance Ganaway for carries.

Super Bowl or Bust for Falcons

The NFL can be considered the most level of professional playing fields with the salary cap, worst team getting the best College player and yet for one team there is only one target to make sure that the season is a success.

According to stud wide receiver, Roddy White who spoke on the NFL Network, the Atlanta Falcons have to reach the show or else:

"I mean, over the last five years we've been doing it with coach (Mike) Smith. We've made the playoffs, we've had home-field advantage throughout the playoffs twice, we've made it to the NFC Championship, we've done everything.
There's nothing left but to make it to the Super Bowl. We gotta make it or else changes have to be made. Because this team has maxed out. There's no more, get to the NFC Championship and lose, get to the NFC Championship and lose and again and again. We can't do that, we got to make it to the big game and find a way to win."
Roddy White will be 32 at the end of the season, the Falcons convinced future hall-of-famer Tony Gonzalez to play another year at 37 and they acquired Steven Jackson at running back, a missing piece of their offensive puzzle.  White was asked, is the window closing for the Falcons:
"The window won't close as long as Matt Ryan's our quarterback we've got the chance to win a lot of games. And anytime you gotta chance to win a lot of games, you set yourself up to make playoff runs to get home playoff games. And once you get in that dome and the atmosphere gets going, you always got the chance to win games."
