Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Chris Clemons suffered a
torn ACL during the team’s playoff game against the Washington Redskins, the
same game that saw Robert Griffin III go down with his serious knee injuries.
While there’s no guarantee, the Seahawks are holding out hope that Clemons will
be able to return in time to start the regular season. Coach Pete Carroll noted -- via Pro Football Talk -- that the pass rusher has “got a chance” to suit up for Week 1.
“Yes he does have a shot to be ready according to the doctor. He’s got a chance and we’ll just wait and see how it goes,” Carroll said. “Like I said from the beginning we’re not going to rush it. We’ll make sure he’s really well and ready to go and all of that, but he is well ahead of schedule and he’s in great shape and so we’re really pleased.”
The Seahawks could especially use Clemons back early
considering fellow defensive end Bruce Irvin – who was supposed to step in for
Clemons – will miss the first four games of the season to a suspension.
