Jets’ Mark Sanchez has shoulder surgery ending his season

Kimberley A. Martin of Newsday reports that New York Jets quarterback, Mark Sanchez, has surgery to repair the torn labrum in his right shoulder.  The surgery, performed by Dr. James Andrews (does this guy clone himself), presumably ends his 2013 season.

Sanchez, who put off surgery in the hopes of non-evasive rehabilitation, finally came to his senses and realized surgery, was his only option.  In a statement posted on the Jets' website, Sanchez had this to say:

After over seven weeks of hard work and intense rehab, I've been advised by Dr. Andrews and other doctors that my shoulder injury clearly needs to be addressed surgically.  The injury was recovering at an encouraging rate early on, and I avoided surgery as long as I could, but ultimately I was counseled by the doctors that they simply would have to repair my shoulder.
Let us not forget how Sanchez came to this situation.  Head coach Rex Ryan inserted Sanchez in the fourth quarter of the Jets' third preseason game behind a 10th string offensive line only to see Sanchez be pummeled into the turf.  I guess first-year QB, Matt Simms, was busy.

At the time, Sanchez was the team's starting QB.  He should have never been out there.  Fast forward to Week 6 and QB Geno Smith is winning and I have not seen Jets' fans this excited since Joe Namath put on pantyhose.

Sanchez is likely done as a Jet but he should be commended for his professionalism.  He never questioned Ryan's decision that got him made into mashed potatoes and he continues to be a Jet until the end stating:
I'm very disappointed that I can't be out there to help my team on the field, but I'll continue to help our team in whatever capacity I can.  I want to thank Dr. [Ken] Montgomery, Dr. Andrews, Dr. [Joseph] Burns and Jets trainer John Melody for helping me through this process and advising me along the way. All doctors expect a full recovery and I look forward to getting back on the field. Until then, go Jets!
I wonder if Sanchez grinds his teeth at night holding in all that pent up anger.  Anyway, good luck, Mark.
