At one point, the New York Giants and wide receiver Victor
Cruz were believed to be nearing an agreement on a long-term contract
extension. That no longer appears to be the case, as Ian Rapoport of NFL.com
reports negotiations between the Giants and Cruz’s representation are moving “incredibly
slow.”
As for #Giants and Victor Cruz, talks moving incredibly slowly. Source acknowledges the obvious: He won't be at minicamp without a contract
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) June 10, 2013
Rapoport adds that Cruz is not expected to attend the Giants’
mandatory minicamp without a contract. He’s not expected to sign his unrestricted
free agent tender, which would allow him to participate in camp without a
contract extension in place.
Things could pick up now that we’ve reached mandatory
minicamps, but there haven’t been any signs to say Cruz is nearing a deal with
New York. While both sides seem to be matching on the length of the proposed
deal, the yearly salary seems to be off by a few million. At least that was the
case earlier this offseason.
