Ahmad Bradshaw, who was released by the New York Giants in February,
is currently in serious talks with the Indianapolis Colts, according to Marc Sessler of NFL.com.
After a decorated collegiate career at Marshall University, Bradshaw
was taken in the seventh round, 250th overall, in the 2007 NFL
draft. He worked hard and was able to gain a regular starting role by his fourth
season while splitting carries with Brandon Jacobs.
Bradshaw was successful, in many aspects, during his tenure
with the Giants. However, his career was marred by foot and leg injuries. He missed
12 games in his six year stint with the team, and his ability, when he returned
from those injuries, was noticeably affected.
Through the 2012 season, Bradshaw struggled to stay on the
field. Rookie, David Wilson, and fourth year ‘back, Andre Brown, capitalized on
their opportunities. The emergence of Wilson and Brown effectively made
Bradshaw, and his multi-million dollar contract, expendable.
After his release, Bradshaw was reported to have met with multiple
teams; but Indianapolis makes the most sense. With the team the Colts have in
place, Bradshaw would have a chance to live up to the high expectations he
established while with the Giants. He would have to contend with the likes of Vick
Ballard, Donald Brown, and Delone Carter; however it’s likely that he will earn,
at the very least, a number 2 role, if he’s signed.
Bradshaw along with Andrew Luck, and the wide receiver trio of Darrius Heyward-Bey, Reggie Wayne, and T. Y. Hilton; could create a potent offensive attack for the already extremely talented Colts, as they look to contend for a Super Bowl title in the 2013 season.
