It was reported last week that free agent quarterback and
former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell was set to work out for the Chicago
Bears on Friday. The workout has been conducted, and a source told Michael C.
Wright of ESPN Chicago that Russell drew positive reviews from those watching him.
JaMarcus Russell drew positive reviews from workout today, according to source at the session. Still unlikely Bears will sign him.

However, the source has even more good things to say about
Russell. He apparently showed the “big arm” he’s become known for, but he was
also sporting a “good and positive demeanor.” Russell also made it clear that he’s
worked very hard to get back into shape, dropping significant weight to show
teams that he’s serious about his comeback attempt.
Beyond his demeanor and arm, Wright also heard that Russell
showed a little rust with timing and accuracy, but the source thought it was
still solid considering he’s so far removed from the NFL.
While the Bears may not be likely to sign him, the recent
workout should only help Russell’s chances of catching on with a team prior to
the start of the regular season.
