Marcus Lattimore’s 2012 season with South Carolina was cut
short due to a significant knee injury. This caused teams to shy away from him
in the recent NFL Draft, but the San Francisco 49ers elected to take a chance
on the former top prospect in the fourth round. While there is still much to be
determined in the recovery process, Lattimore told the NFL Network – quotes courtesy
of Pro Football Talk – that he expects to be well enough to start practicing
with the 49ers by the middle of the 2013 season.
“I did a lot this offseason,” Lattimore said. “I’ve been running sprints, got a chance to get in there with the guys a little bit — that felt good. I probably won’t do training camp. And I’m on course with the trainer and the doctor to get a chance to practice mid-season and see what happens.”
This is of course coming from the player himself, and there’s
still a chance that he doesn’t see time with the team at all this season. If he’s
able to suit up mid-season, that would put his return at one year, which PFT
considers awfully optimistic considering the extent of his injury.
