Minnesota Vikings sign Desmond Bishop

The Minnesota Vikings have reached an agreement with former Green Bay Packers linebacker Desmond Bishop, according to Pro Football Talk. Bishop’s deal with the Vikings is for one-year.

Bishop was released by the Packers last week. He’s coming off a significant hamstring injury during the 2012 season, as a rupture cost him the entire season. Before signing with the Vikings, Bishop also met with the Kansas City Chiefs and drew interest from the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers.

Pro Football Talk notes that Bishop will now compete with fellow linebacker Erin Henderson for the starting job in the middle. It’s been viewed as a position of need for the team throughout the offseason, and it’s why they were being tied to former Chicago Bears middle linebacker Brian Urlacher before his retirement.
