New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski underwent
successful back surgery yesterday afternoon, according to Ian Rapoport of
NFL.com.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Watkins in
California. Watkins was the surgeon who performed Gronk’s pervious back
operation.
Gronkowski entered the offseason nursing a broken forearm
injury that was suffered and then aggravated toward the end of last season and
in the playoffs. As his forearm issue was coming to an end, it was reported
that the tight end was also dealing with a back injury.
Back troubles sidelined Gronkowski for a full season during
his time at Arizona, and there were health concerns surrounding him when he
entered the NFL. Still, at this point there’s growing optimism that Gronkowski
will be back before the end of the preseason, according to Mike Garafolo of USA
Today.
