The Chicago Bears will meet with JaMarcus Russell on Friday,
when the former No. 1 overall pick will work out for the team, according to
Michael C. Wright of ESPN Chicago.
Russell has shed 50 pounds over the last few months, and he’s
reportedly drawing interest from several teams. The Bears are going to have him
and a few other available veteran quarterbacks in to see what they can offer.
At this point the Bears have quarterbacks Jay Cutler, Josh
McCown and Matt Blanchard on their roster. They are satisfied with the three
QBs, but they are contemplating whether or not to bring a fourth option in for
training camp.
Russell has said that he’d prefer to go into a situation
where he can sit and learn behind an established quarterback. While there are
still questions surrounding his leadership ability, Cutler is clearly the Bears
quarterback, so Russell would get his wish if he were to land with Chicago.
