New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes missed most of
last season due to a Lisfranc fracture, and the injury could continue to impact
his 2013 campaign. Holmes told reporters recently – including ESPN New York –
that his target date for return is the first day of training camp, but he added
that this is likely a little overly ambitious. For this reason, and because it’s
not yet clear where Holmes is in the recovery process, the veteran wide out is
questionable for the start of the regular season.
Holmes has yet to begin running and cutting, and he recently
wouldn’t tell reporters whether or not he’s begun jogging. He’s revealed that
he’s recovering from the most severe Lisfranc fracture, a Grade 4, which means
he dealt with a muscle tear and joint separation.
As a result of the question marks that continue to surround
Holmes, the Jets are expected to pursue a wide receiver. Brandon Lloyd, Austin
Collie, Laurent Robinson and Chaz Schilens remain free agents, and New York
could also look to another organization for help.
