New Orleans Saints linebacker Victor Butler injured his knee
during OTA practice last Tuesday when he collided with Mark Ingram. A second
opinion confirmed what the Saints were fearing, Butler requires surgery to
repair his torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), according to Larry Holder of
NOLA.com.
Butler will undergo surgery, which is expected to sideline
him for the 2013 season, on Tuesday. As of yet, the Saints haven’t determined
if they are going to place Butler on injured reserve. More should be known
regarding the injury and resulting return timeframe after the surgery is
completed.
New Orleans and others around the NFL viewed Butler as a promising
outside linebacker, and he was running with the club’s first-team defense
oppositing Will Smith in the new 3-4 scheme. He signed a two-year deal with the
Saints earlier this offseason after spending time with the Dallas Cowboys.
