Broncos rumors: Willis McGahee cut due to health concerns

When veteran running back Willis McGahee reported to Denver Broncos minicamp last week he said he was fully healthy. McGahee had been recovering from a torn medial collateral ligament (MCL) and compression fracture in his leg, and Paul Klee of The Gazette has it on good authority that he’s still not fully recovered, despite what he said earlier in camp. This is what Klee believes ultimately led to the Broncos parting ways with McGahee.

Klee reports that the Broncos don’t believe McGahee is healthy. The running back skipped voluntary OTAs, but Klee believes coach John Fox when he said that wasn’t why the team wound up cutting the veteran back.

When McGahee did return, he received only limited carried during mandatory minicamp. Rather than a roster crunch or moving down the depth chart, Klee believes this had more to do with McGahee’s health.

It will be interesting to see if this ultimately holds up McGahee from signing elsewhere, as other potential suitors will likely be hesitant to bring him in if there are still questions surrounding his leg.
