New England released star tight end Aaron Hernandez about an hour after his arrest for suspected first degree murder last week. Now the Patriots are attempting to recoup any bonus money promised to Hernandez in his recent multi-million dollar contract.

Using simple math, the Patriots are trying to recoup just under $8 million after releasing Hernandez.
This could well prove tricky for the Patriots. There is a clause in the Collective Bargaining Agreement that protects teams from "conduct unbecoming" with a player. New England did that by releasing Hernandez, who was charged with murder, yet the case will be ongoing for some time and so difficult to determine his guilt or innocence.
