When Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta first suffered
his significant hip injury, it was expected that he would be sidelined for the
entire 2013 season as a result. Ravens coach John Harbaugh confirmed this
yesterday, telling reporters – including Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun –
that there’s “no way” Pitta can play at all this year.

Pitta suffered a fractured and dislocated hip. While the
Ravens have previously seen Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs come back from
significant injuries early on in a season or preseason, Harbaugh indicated that
the extent of Pitta’s ailment will not make him a candidate for the designated-to-return
tag.
Doctors have since successfully extracted the bone fragments
from Pitta’s fractured hip. He is slated to undergo additional tests this week
to determine the damage surrounding his hip. As of yet, the Ravens still don’t
know the full extent of his injury, but what they do know already is enough to
keep him out for the remainder of the season.
