Veteran #49er CBs Nnamdi Asomugha and Carlos Rogers may be competing for one roster spot. Either would draw interest as a free agent.

Both corners are 32 years old, but have only missed 7 combined games in the last 5 seasons.
Nnamdi Asomugha was a lack-luster free agent signing made by the 49ers in April. Considered the No. 1 free agent going into the 2011 season, Nnamdi tried, and failed to fit into the Eagles defensive system. His one-year, $1,325,000 contract in San Francisco further reinforces the decline in his player stock.

Carlos Rodgers was on a similar one-year deal in SF during the 2011 season. He then signed a four-year, $29,300,000 deal to stay on the team, March 13th, 2012. Rodger's production fell last year. His 6 interceptions in 2011 brought about only 1 takeaway the following year. His 2013 cap hit is just under $7.5 million and if the 49ers do cut him, they will still be looking at almost $7,000,000 in the red - this is not good news for Nnamdi.

There will definitely be interest around the league if either veteran is waived.

It's possible that Rodgers will opt to take a pay cut that could ensure his roster spot on the team, and may also make it possible to keep both aging defenders. It will be interesting to see how this CB competition plays out during camp. 28-year-old Tarell Brown is currently noted as the 49ers other starting corner.

Fantasy Impact: This will have little-to-no affect on the 49ers defense fantasy value. They are a solid top-5 defense this year.
