Soon after undergoing surgery to repair his knee, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III told reporters that he was sure he would be with the team from Day 1 of training camp. While Griffin’s recovery has impressed many, it remains to be determined if the Redskins will allow him to take the field right away when camp begins, according to NFL.com.

Ian Rapoport reported yesterday that the Redskins have yet to make a decision on whether or not Griffin will start training camp on the team’s active roster or if he will be placed on the active/physically-unable-to-perform list (PUP). This was what the Minnesota Vikings did with running back Adrian Peterson last season, as they sidelined him for the first two weeks of camp is a precaution.

We all saw how that move worked out, so placing Griffin on the PUP list wouldn’t be implying that he’s hit a snag in his recovery. However, considering Griffin’s near guarantee from earlier this offseason, he surely wants to get back on the field as soon as possible.

While Griffin may be available for camp, the Redskins could elect to keep him out of the preseason. This is also how the Vikings handled Peterson last year. Again, we all know how that turned out, so Washington could follow along the same path.
