Browns’ Trent Richardson on track for training camp

Earlier this offseason, it appeared that Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson was at risk of missing the start of training camp due to injury. However, Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer reports Richardson has begun his running program as scheduled, adding that the running back is “still on track for camp.”

While this is certainly good news, Cabot believes the Browns are still likely to err on the side of caution when it comes to their primary rusher. She wouldn’t be surprised if Cleveland limits Richardson early on in camp. The team’s main focus will be keeping him healthy throughout the 2013 season.

Questions started swirling when the team announced Richardson had suffered a leg injury earlier this offseason that was expected to sideline him through the start of August. This would have him out for the start of camp.

Despite only being in the league for one season, Richardson has dealt with injuries. He was able to appear in 15 games last season, but he was hampered by ailments throughout, and this year the Browns are going to try and keep him healthier in hopes of him producing more consistently when he’s able to suit up.
