Detroit Lions seek receiving depth

Detroit Lions have made Matthew Stafford one of the most valuable quarterbacks in the NFL, they have the best receiver in Calvin Johnson and yet they seem oddly weak in depth at the rest of the receiving core.

With Nate Burleson and Ryan Broyles coming off of season-ending injuries, and with Mike Thomas and Kris Durham offering talent but not explosiveness, the Lions are offering some veterans a position during training camps.

Free agent receivers Laurent Robinson, Steve Breaston and Chaz Schilens will all attend training camp. Robinson worked out for the New York Jets on Monday and is the most dynamic player of this trio yet has had concussion issues; Breaston struggled with the Kansas City Chiefs last season due to an inflammed knee and Schilens was a bit player for the Jets last season.

People may say as long as they have Megatron they have nothing worry about, yet the contract they have handed Stafford is already causing Detroit some short-term discomfort by attempting to massage a painful depth position with reliable veteran and not dynamic youth.
