Eric Wright fails physical, trade voided

The trade between the San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers that would have sent cornerback Eric Wright to San Francisco in exchange for a conditional late round draft pick in 2014 was voided yesterday when Eric Wright failed his physical, according to Michael Wagaman of the Associated Press.

Details about which part of the physical Eric Wright failed were not made available by the 49ers.

"We don't ever talk about that, the information is he didn't pass the physical, he's not on the team" said head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Shortly after the two teams agreed to the trade, reports were released that Eric Wright was arrested on misdemeanor DUI charge in Los Angeles on July 12th. Whether or not the 49ers were aware of the situation when they agreed to the trade remains unknown.

Once the trade was voided, Eric Wright was then released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Assuming that Eric Wright was healthy, his presence on the 49ers would have added some much needed depth to their secondary that was exposed by the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII. The secondary was further depleted in the offseason when free safety Dashon Goldson signed a five year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, the 49er's front seven is still one of the best in the league and for the most part should be able to compensate for their lack of depth in the secondary.
