Eagles' Jeremy Maclin out for the season with a torn ACL

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin's season ended before it even really began when he was carted off the field after crumpling to the ground while running a route during 7 on 7 drills during Saturday's practice.  The Eagles later confirmed via the team's official twitter page that Maclin tore his ACL in his right knee.

Jeremy Maclin was the second Eagles wide receiver to sustain a knee injury in as many days. Fellow wideout Arrellious Benn also suffered a left knee injury during Friday's practice. However his injury does not appear to be as serious.

Unless they can find an answer, losing Jeremy Maclin for the season is going to seriously impact their offense. Maclin was projected to be a very intricate part of new head coach Chip Kelly's fast paced offense. With Maclin off the field it will make life much easier for opposing defenses now that they have one less weapon to worry about.

The timing of this injury could not be worse for Jeremy Maclin who is entering the final year of his contract. Had he been healthy and productive this season, either the Eagles would have likely given him a nice extension or he would have been able to get a nice payout in free agency. Both of those scenarios are still possible for Maclin depending on how his rehab goes. However, he now loses some leverage in negotiations considering he will be coming back from a season ending injury.
