Over the weekend, Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams
was sidelined during the team’s practice session with a foot injury. At the
time, the Bills didn’t have much to say regarding the injury, but they
indicated that it wasn’t believed to be significant. It turns out that there
may be some concern surrounding the foot ailment, as Williams was sent away
from the training facility to have his injury examined further, according to
Tim Graham of The Buffalo News.
New Bills head coach Doug Marrone shared the news with
reporters yesterday.
"He's going to be evaluated by our doctors, so he's off campus being evaluated," Marrone said. "I have not heard any report yet."
Marrone added that the foot injury was not something
revealed during pre-training camp physicals. He provided limited info on the
injury, only saying that the team is attempting to avoid making mistakes when
it comes to treating the ailment.
"His foot was sore," Marrone said. "We're not going to make any mistakes about it. We're going to make sure that everything's fine. Our doctor's are evaluating him. Where he is or where he goes, I'm not going to talk about that."
Williams signed a record contract to join the Bills last
season in hopes of making their defenses one of the best in the NFL. He
struggled, as did Buffalo defensively, and he’s certainly hoping for better
production this season. He has to be on the field to produce, and at this point
it’s not clear when he’ll get back out there.
