Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has been medically cleared by the team's training staff to participate in training camp according to an ESPN report. The three time pro bowl running back is coming back from a Lisfranc injury that ended his season 10 weeks early in 2012.
Considering the severity of a Lisfranc injury and factor in that Maurice Jones-Drew is 28 years old, (which is getting up there for a running back) you can expect the Jaguars to be very careful with their star running back and ease Jones-Drew back into football activities.
Maurice Jones-Drew's health is great news for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who had the league's third worst rushing attack in 2012. However, skepticism remains about Jones-Drew moving forward. Lisfranc injuries are very serious and it is possible that he may never be the same player again. With a less than spectacular quarterback and less than spectacular wide receivers it is likely that the Jaguars will once again look to Maurice Jones-Drew to carry the workload on offense. 2013 could be a make or break year for Jones-Drew who is entering the final year of his contract with the Jaguars.
