Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman Jared Allen is
projecting a strong performance in 2013, even after returning from knee and
shoulder surgery at the age of 31. While he’s happy to have a contract, he told
Dan Wiederer of The Star-Tribune that he wishes the Vikings would have extended
his deal before he reached the final year of the agreement.
“Best-case scenario would have been that we would have never gotten to this point,” Allen said. “Best-case scenario would have been the organization would have gotten something done [on an extension] a few years back. Well ya know what? That’s not the case. And I understand it. … I’m just happy I’m in a spot where both sides are honoring the contract.”
If Allen posts a strong 2013 campaign, he could price
himself out of Minnesota. If he struggles, the Vikings could have little
incentive to re-sign the aging veteran.
