The San Francisco 49ers took a major hit before offseason
workouts really ramped up, as the team announced last week that wide receiver Michael Crabtree will miss the next six months with a torn Achilles. Considering
the absence of Crabtree, the return of fellow wide out Mario Manningham is all
the more important.
Manningham is progressing through his rehab for a knee injury he suffered late last season. While he hasn’t set an exact timeframe for
his return, the wide receiver is happy with the progress he’s made, as he’s now
running and cutting on the knee, according to 49ers.com.
“I have started and running cutting and doing little things,” Manningham said, a key development in his recovery. “When you have knee injuries, you can’t really take any time off,” the 6-foot, 185-pound wide out said. “Every time I think about it, I'm trying to do something with my knee. I’m not rushing it but I am going hard on my knee.”
Manningham won’t set a return target until he’s fully
cleared to resume football-related activities, but coach John Harbaugh believes
the receiver will be sidelined through the start of training camp. Manningham
suffered a torn ACL and PCL late last season, his first with the 49ers.
