Chargers rumors: Max Starks still in the mix

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Max Starks recently visited with the San Diego Chargers, who are in search of a tackle. While Starks left the Chargers without a contract in hand, he remains in the mix for San Diego, according to Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego.

While there are questions surrounding Starks’ abilities as left tackle, Gehlken believes he would slot in as the Chargers’ starter at that position if he were to sign. That’s because San Diego currently has King Dunlap as their projected left tackle, which is why the team is so interested in adding depth at the position.
Stark wasn’t the team’s primary target, as San Diego welcome Bryant McKinnie before he re-signed with the Baltimore Ravens. Others have also visited, but Starks is one of the few options remaining on a steadily depleting free agent market.

While he’s no longer considered a top player in the NFL, Starks did start 16 games at left tackle for the Steelers last season. Beyond Dunlap, San Diego also has Michael Harris and Kevin Haslam – who combined to start 12 games at left tackle for the Chargers last season.
