The Philadelphia Eagles have signed Dallas Cowboys free agent running back Felix Jones to a one-year contract, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Jones visited with the Eagles last week. While Philadelphia already has LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown on their roster, management and new head coach Chip Kelly viewed Jones as a worthy addition.
Jones was never effective as a starting running back in the NFL. He was given this opportunity again last season when DeMarco Murray went down with injury, and he failed to flourish in the role.
Still, Jones has averaged 4.8 yards per carry over his career, and he is viewed as a much better option as a more limited contributor. Considering Kelly's offensive prowess, Jones could find a nice role with the Eagles despite being the team's No. 3 running back.
Prior to signing with the Eagles, Jones also met with the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals this offseason.
