Green Bay Packers free agent cornerback/safety Charles
Woodson remains unsigned, and teams haven’t expressed a significant amount of interest
in the veteran. He’s “surprised” by this, as he told NFL Network yesterday that
he’s trying to get his head around why teams aren’t calling him.

"I am surprised because I don't think there's any question in anybody's mind whether or not I can play football," Woodson said. "So, my issue is, you know I can play football, why am I not on a team, why haven't I had more visits? I'm kind of surprised by it."
Earlier this offseason Woodson received interest from the
San Francisco 49ers. It appeared to be a natural fit, as the 49ers could use
secondary help and Woodson would continue his career with a contending team.
However, a deal was never completed. San Francisco hasn’t
ruled out an agreement with Woodson, but he’s not confident that one will take
place. Since they expressed interest in him, the 49ers have signed a safety and
picked one up in the NFL Draft.
While it would be difficult, Woodson said that he’s “prepared”
himself for the potential of not being picked up and forced into what he would
consider to be an early retirement. Still, there’s plenty of offseason
remaining, and it seems likely that Woodson will land with a team at some point
prior to the start of next season.
