Mark Sanchez 'sure' he'll be Jets starting quarterback

The New York Jets have mutliple options at quarterback as training camp approaches. Not only did the team add veteran backup David Garrard, but they also selected top prospect Geno Smith early in the second round. Despite the additions, incumbent Mark Sanchez has "no doubt" that he'll be the Jets' starting quarterback this season, according to Bob Glauber of Newsday.

Sanchez is ready to compete with the other candidates for the team's starting quarterback position, but he sounds confident that he'll be the one under center when Week 1 rolls around. He's excited for the added competition, but the Jets sent the four-year pro a clear message when they selected Smith last weekend; you're time's running out.

With the addition of Smith, as well as the way Sanchez's contract is structured, the veteran could remain the team's starter for at least the early part of the season. Sanchez is guaranteed $8.5 million this year, meaning he's less likely to simply be released by the Jets. While they could retain him and use him for part of or the entire season, Sanchez is almost certainly going to be auditioning for his next team this year.
