New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks was a no-show at
team OTAs on Wednesday, and it wasn’t initially clear what the reason was for
his absence. Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reports it was Nicks’ unstated goal to
show he was unhappy about his current contract situation.

While that’s the report, Nicks’ agent strongly denied that
the wide receiver’s absence was due to contractual reasons. One the agent and
Nicks know why he’s not at OTAs, and neither was willing to further discuss the
situation.
It appeared that quarterback Eli Manning and coach Tom
Coughlin both expected Nicks to be at the voluntary workout. The former
first-round draft pick has one year remaining on his original contract.
Beyond Nicks, the Giants are also facing contract issues
with wide receiver Victor Cruz, who has been tendered a one-year, $2.879
million offer but hopes to sign a lucrative long-term deal.
