Giants rumors: Victor Cruz talks ‘moving slowly’

Last week was a ‘pivotal time’ for contract extension talks between the New York Giants and wide receiver Victor Cruz. While this was reportedly the case, negotiations continue “moving slowly,” according to Pro Football Talk.

Talks are expected to resume this week. The Giants and Cruz are hoping to work out a long-term contract agreement, but they’ve yet to determine a value that both consider reasonable. The Giants would like to sign Cruz for roughly $7 million per year, while the wide receiver and his representation are seeking a yearly salary in the $10 million range.

At this point, Cruz has yet to sign his restricted free agency tender, which is one-year at $2.879 million. On June 17, the Giants can slash this to roughly $600,000, but considering this would likely aggravate Cruz it’s not an expected move.

If a long-term deal isn't reached this offseason, Cruz would be set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2014 season. The clock is ticking, but a resolution is still expected to eventually be reached considering both teams are expressing interest in an extension.
