Free agent defensive lineman John Abraham will visit with the Tennessee Titans this week, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. The former Atlanta Falcons pass rusher will meet with the Titans today and tomorrow.
Abraham was cut by the Falcons earlier this offseason, as the team parted ways with several veterans -- also including Michael Turner and Dunta Robinson -- to increase their salary cap space available. The Falcons brought in New York Giants free agent Osi Umenyiora to fill the vacancy created by his release. He's since been tied to a few teams -- including the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots -- but talks haven't appeared to get extremely serious.
The Titans have a pair of defensive ends on their roster already in Kamerion Wimbley and Derrick Morgan, so if Abraham is signed it would likely be as a situational player. Tennessee also expressed interest in free agent defensive end Dwight Freeney earlier this offseason.
While he recorded 10 sacks last season for the Falcons, Abraham will turn 35 years old this month. Given the lack of interest that's been expressed in him thus far, Abraham could find himself limited to a pass rushing specialist role and not an every-down player.
