The Denver Broncos hoped to reach an agreement on a contract extension with offensive lineman Ryan Clady, but instead they were forced to use the franchise tender on him. Clady has yet to sign the $9.828 million tender, as he continues to hold out hope of inking a long-term deal with the Broncos. This could still happen prior to the start of the season, as Matt Russell -- Denver's director of player personnel -- told Lindsay Jones of USA Today that he is "confident" about getting a long-term deal done for Clady.
Russell added that the Broncos "want him here," referring to Clady.
Since he's yet to sign his tender, Clady hasn't joined the team for the voluntary portion of offseason workouts. He has until July 15 to either reach a new deal with the Broncos or sign his tender.
One factor that could be holding up a potential deal is the shoulder surgery Clady underwent after last season ended. Denver might want to see how he's recovering following the procedure before investing significantly in the lineman.
