New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is entering the
final year of his rookie contract, yet most of the attention has been focused
on Victor Cruz. Nicks is aware of his situation, but a person informed with his
thinking told Ian Rapoport of NFL.com that, unlike Cruz, he’s willing to play
out his current contract and let the Giants come to him with an offer.
From Total Access: While Victor Cruz is in talks with #Giants, Hakeem Nicks is in no hurry to ramp up talks. He'd be OK waiting for post-'13

From the Giants perspective this is a bit risky, but New
York could still use the franchise tag on his after the 2013 season if they’re
unable to reach a contract extension. This would buy the club more time when it
comes to negotiations.
New York hopes to keep both Nicks and Cruz. It will
certainly be interesting to see how the situation plays out, and if they are
able to accomplish their goal.
