rehabilitation for players – including linebacker Sean Spence, tight end Heath
Miller and offensive lineman Marcus Gilbert – is all “going according to plan,”
the team has announced.

There have been questions surrounding Spence – who was
selected in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Steelers – and his
injured knee. Linebackers coach Keith Butler recently said he wasn’t sure if
Spence would be able to come back in 2013 or 2014, but Tomlin is a bit more
optimistic. Still, Tomlin admits that his thoughts are not necessarily backed medically.
“I did hear the opinion regarding Spence,” Tomlin said, according to the Steelers. “My opinion differs. I think he’s going to have a full recovery, but now you have two opinions, neither of which are expert medical opinions. Do with it what you wish.”
Miller tore ligaments in his knee on Dec. 23, and he’s not
expected to start the season with the club. Still, it’s not expected that he’ll
miss the entire 2013 campaign. Gilbert is recovering from a significant ankle
injury.
