Redskins' Robert Griffin III hopes to return for training camp

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is less than six months removed from suffering his significant knee injury. Still, he's back on the field and participating in the team's OTAs, telling reporters -- including Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk -- that his knee feels great.
“The knee feels great,” Griffin said. “I’m able to do all the stuff out there without any hesitation, so that’s the best part about it. I’m excited about that. It’s all about having that confidence, and if you put the work in you’ll have that confidence when you get back out there on the field. It’s about playing like you were never injured.”
Prior to OTAs, Griffin spoke with coach Mike Shanahan about his involvement in the offseason routine. He said he wanted to take part in as much on-field activities as he could, and he was granted permission to take part in a few on-field drills.

Griffin's recovery has gone extremely well so far. The quarterback is within a couple of weeks of beginning to cut and starting to sprint. His goal is to be ready to join his team for training camp.
“There’s two phases left, explosive sprinting and cutting. Those are the only two things left. Being at four and a half months out, I am a little bit ahead,” Griffin said. “My goal is to be out there for training camp.”
When Griffin initially suffered his injury, there were some that questioned whether he would be able to return for the start of the regular season. It now seems all but a sure thing that he'll be back for Week 1, as he's now pushing to get back in camp. It will be interesting to see how he's impacted physically and mentally by the injury and whether or not the Redskins change their use of the dynamic signal caller.
