The New England Patriots acquired running back LeGarrette Blunt from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week in exchange for seventh-round pick Jeff Demps. Soon after joining the Pats, Blount agreed to take a
significant pay cut, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston.

The Patriots’ agreement with the Bucs included a stipulation
that said Blount would have to agree to a pay cut after joining New England.
While the running back was scheduled to make $1.2 million with Tampa Bay in
2013, he’s now set to earn roughly half of that – $630k – with the Pats.
The guaranteed money that Blount will receive is even less
if he’s cut or lands on injured reserve. In either case the running back will
only see $358k in 2013.
Considering the Patriots only had to surrender and
seventh-round pick and the fact that they’re paying Blount basically nothing –
as far as NFL contracts go – this is even more of a low-risk, high-reward
acquisition.
