When New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks entered
training camp, he was deemed full-go by the team. However, the playmaker
suffered a minor groin injury during the first practice that has limited him
since. He wasn’t able to join his teammates on the practice field yesterday,
and while head coach Tom Coughlin said the injury didn’t get any worse, he
added that it’s been frustrating so far, reports Connor Orr of The Star-Ledger.
"Certainly I want to see him on the field, and he wants to be on the field," Coughlin said. "It’s frustrating, but I’ve got to learn to control myself when it comes to that as well and just realize he’s trying like heck to get out here and he knows he needs to practice and work at it. He came in excited about being able to go but he had this little groin injury which I hope is not going to set him back for very long. But obviously, we’re taking all the necessary precautions."
Nicks was limited to riding a stationary bike yesterday.
While the Giants would prefer to have him on the field, they are not going to
rush him back from a groin injury, no matter how minor, at this point of the
season. Nicks doesn’t seem to be overly concerned about the ailment, but there’s
no reason for New York to push him and risk aggravation or further injury.
