Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin underwent
surgery on his ailing hip yesterday, and nothing doctors found made the team
any less hopeful that they’d get the dynamic playmaker back at some point this
season, according to Pro Football Talk.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll addressed the media
following the procedure, saying it went “very well.” Seattle is “hopeful” the
wide receiver will be able to rejoin the team later this season.
“There’s a long rehab process coming up,” Carroll said, via Curtis Crabtree of PFT and 950 KJR in Seattle. “He’s gonna be in NY for a couple of weeks to start of the rehab and then we’ll have him back here in due time. We don’t have any dates or timelines or that kind of stuff, but we’re gonna be very optimistic and hope he’ll be back as soon as possible.”
The Seahawks currently have Harvin on the physically unable
to perform list. If he remains there through the start of the season, he wouldn’t
be able to be activated until Week 7. Harvin is expected to need longer than
that to recover from the operation, as most are putting a November timeframe on
his return.
Considering Harvin is just a day removed from surgery, it’s
hard to really say when he’ll be back with the Seahawks. Whatever the case, it
appears that he’ll miss a majority of the 2013 season as a result of the hip
injury.
