Texans sticking with Matt Schaub, for now

The Houston Texans replaced starting quarterback Matt Schaub with backup T.J. Yates during yesterday'd drubbing at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers. When asked if Schaub is his starting quarterback moving forward, head coach Gary Kubiak responded with a simple "Yes, he is."

While Kubiak's initial statement sounded definitive, the rest of his comments weren't. He told reporters that the team will give reps to Yates this week and evaluate the situation as next weekend approaches.
"I think it was time for him [Yates] to get some reps," Kubiak said. "Obviously, Matt took some hits and made some mistakes. And I just told him I was going to put T.J. in the game -- and we're going to go from there and talk about it after the game or throughout the course of the week and see where we're at."
Schaub seemed to understand the decision, but he said he hasn't lost confidence in himself or his teammates.
"Obviously, it's tough right now," the Texans' starting quarterback said honestly. "After what we've been through tonight, going back to last weekend and even the week before. I am very confident in my ability and everyone in this locker room."
Before leaving yesterday's game, Schaub completed 19 of 35 passes for 173 yards with no touchdowns to three interceptions. He's now thrown two touchdowns and six interceptions over his previous three games, all of which the Texans have lost.

Schaub insisted that he and the team have hit rock bottom. We'll see if that's the case, or if there's even more troubles ahead for Schaub and the Texans.
