Giants' David Wilson exits with neck injury

New York Giants running back David Wilson exited Sunday's 36-21 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at the end of the first quarter with a neck injury. Wilson did not return, but tweeted a couple of hours after the game that he felt good and that he would be back for Thursday night's game against the Chicago Bears.

Before suffering the injury, Wilson was a main contributor to the Giants offense in the first quarter. He got the scoring started for the afternoon with a 5-yard touchdown run, and had three more carries and was targeted in the passing game once after the touchdown.

It appears that Wilson sustained the injury on the final play of the first quarter. The play begun at the Giants 5-yard line, Wilson took the handoff but the offensive line was overpowered by the Eagles defense. He was pushed back into the end zone but the officials blew the play dead at the 2-yard line. Wilson stayed on the ground for a few moments after the play, and then walked off into the locker room. The Giants announced when they came out for the second half that Wilson would not return.

The Giants are fortunate Wilson's injury does not appear that it will force him to miss any time. If Wilson were unable to play, it would leave 31-year old Brandon Jacobs as the starting running back. The Giants entered Sunday's game with the third-worst rushing attack in the league, averaging a mere 57.8 yards on the ground per game, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN New York.
