Since the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut ties with quarterback
Josh Freeman, rumors have swirled as to where the former first-round pick would
land. Several teams have been mentioned, but Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times
reports that the Oakland Raiders have “definite interest” in Freeman.
The Oakland Raiders have a definite interest in Josh Freeman. Moving slowly. Cant make mistake on another QB. #mattflynn #jamarcusrussell.

Stroud notes that the Raiders are moving slowly as they
continue to evaluate a potential addition of Freeman. He adds that they can’t
make another mistake at quarterback, referencing Matt Flynn and JaMarcus Russell.
Of course, Freeman would represent a much less risky
acquisition than Russell or even Flynn. Since he’s been cut, there hasn’t
been an extreme amount of interest in him, and he’s viewed as a backup at this
point of his career.
The Raiders do have Terrelle Pryor, and there’s hope that the
youngster will develop into the team’s long-term solution at quarterback.
However, as we’ve seen already this season, Pryor is an injury risk based on his
style of play, so Oakland would do well to secure a solid No. 2 option at the
quarterback position. It’s to be determined if they believe Freeman fits that
description.
