Fantasy Football: Week 5 Gameday start 'em sit 'em

Sunday is here, and that means a lot of football. A reminder to owners to check their team's for bye week players. The big names not playing this week include; Adrian Peterson, Doug Martin, Vincent Jackson, Antonio Brown, Alfred Morris, and RGII. Here's a look at some players who might be able to fill in for you, and some who might already be on your bench.

Start Victor Cruz vs. Eagles. In four career game against the Eagles, Cruz averages 6 catches for 100 yards per game, and 5 total scores. Philadelphia's secondary is suffering from injuries early in the season and Cruz is going to continue to dominate, till proving to be Eli Manning's favorite target. This game is going to be a shootout to prove which team is truly the worst in the NFC East. The Eagles are allowing 225 receiving yards per game to wide-outs, and 2 touchdowns.

Start Jeremy Kerley vs. Atlanta. The Jets will likely be without starters Santonio Holmes and Stephan Hill. Jeremy Kerley will be looked at to take the role of No. 1 receiver for Geno Smith against a secondary that gave up 279 yards to receivers last weekend. Kerley might not be exactly what you had in mind when you started looking for that guy to fill the shoes of Vincent Jackson or Antonio Brown (both on bye), but you should be able to rely on him for 6-8 catches for 100 yards and maybe a score.

Start Denarius Moore vs. Chargers. Terrell Pryor is going to continue to lean on Moore, especially in this tight division matchup being aired in prime-time.

Start Justin Blackmon vs. Rams. Blackmon is back for his first game and coach Gus Bradley says he's in the best shape of his career. Blackmon has reportedly cut body fat, and added weight, and is unbelievably conditioned.

Start James Jones vs. Lions.

Sit A.J. Green vs. Patriots. The Bengals' A.J. Green is likely going to have his first experience with Patriots' elite corner Aqib Talib this week. Talib was able to successfully shut down Green's Atlanta counterpart, Julio Jones, last week, and I'm going to assume that D.C. Matt Patricia will use Talib in the same way going into this game as well.

Sit Marlon Brown vs. Dolphins. The Dolphins have not given up a touchdown to opposing wide receivers this year.

Sit Anquan Boldin vs. Texans.  The Texans are the only team in the NFL who is allowing less than 100 yards receiving per game to opposing wide-outs. Having played some of the league's stronger arms in Flacco and Rivers, I'm not going to expect Kaepernick to connect with his guys in any overwhelming capacity this week against this strong defense.

Sit Steve Smith vs. Cardinals.

Sit T.Y. Hilton vs. Seahawks.

Sit Reggie Wayne vs. Seahawks.

Start Maurice Jones-Drew vs. Rams. This is the week all you MJD owners have been waiting for. The Rams are allowing 130 rushing yards per game to opposing running backs and the Jaguars are going to realize that their best offensive weapon for the last 8 years is still hangin' around, even if the Jags aren't.

Start Ray Rice vs. Miami. The Dolphins are giving up almost 75 receiving yards per game to opposing running backs, in addition to over 85 yards per game on the ground. It seems as though John Harbaugh is moving on from the delusion that Joe Flacco will carry the Ravens back to the playoffs. It's time for Rice to resume his place as the rock that Baltimore can ride. I'm expecting at least 20 fantasy points in PPR formats from Rice this week.

Start LeSean McCoy vs. Giants. McCoy has recorded over 100 yards from scrimmage in his last 4 games against the Giants. In his career, McCoy has played the Giants eight time, carrying the ball 125 times for almost 6 ypc; also catching 4 passes per game. Week 5 is not the week when McCoy falls off the top of the rushing leaders list.

Start Giovani Bernard vs. Patriots. Welcome home "The Law-Firm". Bill Belichick isn't going to give up anything to BenJarvus Green-Ellis. If the Bengals are going to find production on offense, it's going to come with the rookie Bernard. The Patriots have only allowed 1 rushing score to running backs. On the other hand, they are giving up almost 6 receptions to running backs per game, this bodes well for Gio B.

Start Danny Woodhead vs. Raiders.

Start DeMarco Murray vs. Broncos.

Sit Jason Snelling vs. Jets. The Jets are giving up a league-low 80 yards from scrimmage per game to opposing running backs. Furthermore, a destructive 2.9 yards per carry, and 4.8 yards per catch will send and running back to my bench.

Sit Chris Johnson vs. Chiefs. The last time CJ?K matched up against the Chiefs he couldn't manage to break the 6-fantasy-point barrier. Chris Johnson is, as usual, under-performing, and has quickly fallen into everyone's' "bust" category. Johnson might bounce back, or let loose an 80-yard-TD but it's not going to happen against a stunning Chiefs defense.

Sit Lamar Miller vs. Ravens.

Sit JacQuizz Rodgers vs. Jets.

Start QB Terrell Pryor vs. Chargers. Assuming Pryor gets the start, he's definitely the hot hand in black and silver. The Chargers secondary has proven themselves as one of the worst in the league, allowing a 69% completion percentage to opposing QBs and a staggering league-high 26 fantasy points per game.

Start QB Matt Stafford vs. Packers. In his last three games against Green Bay, Stafford has scored 8 times and averaged over 350 yards per game. Should be a good day for fantasy players on both teams as this game is likely going to be a shootout.

Start QB Sam Bradford vs. Jaguars. This will be Bradford's first career game against the Jaguars. After an embarrassing division loss last week to the 9ers, the Rams will likely take out their frustration of a Jacksonville team who has clearly shown themselves as the worst team in the NFL.

Start QB Michael Vick vs. Giants.

Start QB Eli Manning vs. Eagles.

Start QB Philip Rivers vs. Raiders.

Sit QB Jay Cutler vs. Saints. Tough decision here. The Saints are going to score, and that keeps Cutler with the ball. Don't be too sure that this is going to result in a positive fantasy outing. The Saints have been playing from ahead all season, and in their last three games they have only allowed 2 passing touchdowns, and have given up an average of 187 passing yards per game.

Sit QB Russell Wilson vs. Colts. The Colts defense looks scary good, and the addition of Trent Richardson is only going to help balance the game's time of possession. I think every NFL fan is excited for this game, but it's likely to be a more fortunate situation for Beast Mode (M. Lynch). In the last two weeks, the Colts have allowed 165 passing yards per game, and 0 touchdowns through the air.

Sit QB Andy Dalton vs. Patriots. New England's secondary is the best it's been since 2007. If the Bengals expect to win this game, it's going to be done on defense. Nobody can expect this 2-2 team to score more than 25 points.

Sit QB Carson Palmer vs. Panthers.

Sit QB Andrew Luck vs. Seahawks.
