Following the announcement of New England Patriots defensive
tackle Vince Wilfork’s season-ending injury, there has been talk surrounding
who will replace, or at least fill in, for the Pro Bowler. There aren’t many
satisfying answers, but some speculation has swirled around the possibility of
former Patriots defensive lineman Richard Seymour rejoining the team.
Those rumors were stifled almost as soon as they began, as
Seymour told Ron Borges of the Boston Herald “No way,” when he was asked if he
would consider returning to the Patriots.
Seymour has most recently been a member of the Oakland
Raiders. He was dealt by the Patriots to the Raiders prior to the start of the
2009 season. He’s still only 33 years old, but he held out from signing a new
deal this offseason. Seymour reportedly did not feel motivated enough by the
offers he was presented with to continue his career.
Whatever the case, it appears the
Patriots, who lost Wilfork for the season to an Achilles injury, will have to
look elsewhere for his replacement.
