Panthers' Amini Silatolu has torn ACL; done for season

The Carolina Panthers announced (via ESPN.com) left guard Amini Silatolu will miss the remainder of the season after being diagnosed with a torn ACL in his right knee. Silatolu suffered his injury during Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

It's a tough blow to an already struggling Panthers team. Even with Silatolu  playing some of the game, Carolina allowed quarterback Cam Newton to be sacked seven times against the Cardinals. Some of that is on Newton, a scrambling quarterback that has a tendency to hold onto the ball for too long, but at least some of the blame has to be directed to the offensive line.

In place of Silatolu, Panthers head coach Ron Rivera indicated that he will use either reserve guard Travelle Wharton, who replaced Silatolu following his injury Sunday, or right guard Chris Scott. Despite his team's 1-3 record, Rivera believes they have what it takes to weather the injury.
"It's kind of been two seasons in a row where we've kind of had to go through this," Rivera said of injuries to the line. "Last year we played well down the stretch with a group of young guys that hadn't gotten an awful lot of snaps prior to this. I believe it's something we can work on and get going in the right direction."
