Browns' Josh Gordon still subject of trade talks

The Cleveland Browns, tied for first in the AFC North, are the feel good story in this early 2013 NFL campaign.  Most thought the organization had closed the Dawg Pound once they traded star running back Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts a few weeks ago.

I always felt that was their intention, to ride this season out and start rebuilding for 2014.  A funny thing happened on the way to that plan, the Browns started winning.  Winning or not, the Browns still want to look to rebuild for 2014 and as Chris Wesseling of NFL.com tells us, the Browns are still entertaining offers on star wide receiver, Josh Gordon.

If the Browns were in it to win it this season, why even consider moving your best wide receiver?  I realize Gordon has had a troubled past and there are rumblings that his work ethic might need a jump start every now and then but he still is young and very talented and with the proper guidance he could be the cornerstone of your offense.

Browns General Manager Michael Lombardi and Chief Executive Officer Joe Banner have come out and stated that they are not banging down any team's doors to dump their star players but they are listening to offers.

The latest is that the San Francisco 49ers showed interest in Gordon.  However, a deal is unlikely with WRs Mario Manningham and Michael Crabtree returning from injuries and the Browns asking price being high.

The Browns have entertained other teams in regards to Gordon and in return, the Browns want a second-round draft pick.  That is a high price for a WR with off the field risk.

It matters not what the Browns tell the NFL public, it is their actions, which define them.  In the past few weeks they traded their star running back, went with third string quarterback Brian Hoyer over Brandon Weeden (would have stayed with Hoyer if not for the knee injury) and are in trade talks to ship Gordon anywhere for a second-round pick in return.

I am not saying the Browns front office want their team to lose, but they seem content if they do not win.  Does the movie Major League come to mind, Cleveland?

Maybe Jobu will tell us how this all ends.
